Tackling external dependencies - the key to credible climate transition planning?

Join our virtual session on Thursday 20th March:

Time: 15:00 – 16:00 GMT / 16:00 – 17:00 CET / 10:00 – 11:00 EST

Location: Microsoft Teams Webinar

A climate transition plan is about describing the detail of how you’ll meet your strategic ambitions. Being able to articulate a clear view of what external factors need to be true in order to meet your climate targets – and crucially how you can address them - is increasingly seen by investors as a critical part of a credible transition plan. These are your “dependencies” - and being able to define and address them is on the minds of many sustainability professionals in the midst of transition planning.

We’ll be joined by Nicolas Pickard Garcia (European Commission’s Joint Research Centre) who will be sharing insights based on his  latest JRC research which looks at how companies and financial institutions can consider geographical dependencies when preparing or analysing company transition plans.

What you can expect from the session

Hear views from SB+CO and a range of businesses with experience in identifying and communicating dependencies, including:

  • why you shouldn’t ignore dependencies in your transition planning process;

  • what tools are available to you– with insights from Nicolas Pickard Garcia on JRC tools under development; and

  • how to decide how you should tackle them – and where not to.

This event is the second in our climate transition planning webinar series. The first Why climate transition plans are everywhere – and how to create yours with confidence was held on 12th February 2025 and saw us cover the changing regulatory requirements, and a practical guide for building a transition plan.

This follows a series of conversations through 2024 with sustainability leaders and practitioners in a mix of breakfast events, roundtables and direct conversations where we’ve heard about their experiences preparing for, creating, reporting and implementing their climate transition plans. If you would like to read our summary of the themes from those conversations, please find our whitepaper at:
